Imperfect Heroes

The very word, hero exudes strength, notable achievements, and other noble qualities that one aspires to. Whether a person should be defined as a hero in the first place could be debated for weeks (or years) on end. In fact, there’s no automatic way of defining or labelling a person as a hero, as far as I know.

Your hero or heroes from when you were younger might not have the same impression on you as the years progress. So, depending on the hero you admired, you may look back and think that most of your admiration was superficial. There are exceptions to that, of course, but I think they’re rather rare.

Do we even have heroes that we look up to when we get to a certain age? When our so-called heroes fail us, despite knowing in the back of our minds that they weren’t saints to begin with, do we seek out new heroes to admire or simply stop believing that true heroes exist?

Can you tell that I’ve recently been disappointed by my so-called hero? *sigh* I guess I just have to grow up. Anyway, back to the real world…
