Swim Training (1000m Wed; 450m Fri)

Friday, 16 April 2010 | 12:01 pm

I went to do my lunchtime workout on Wednesday — 1000m swim! I was particularly encouraged to workout by my “new” virtual training buddy Sheryl! Yesh, we have a shareable Google calendar and each entered our training timetables into it. It’s one of the better ideas that either of us had had (yet)! LOL. Anyway we’re hoping that this will help us get back to fitness and obtain the “personal records” we crave for this year: me for the San Diego Rock ‘n’ Roll marathon and Sheryl for the California Int’l Marathon. I think that by being accountable to someone else’s training, you’ll find renewed vigour to your own daily schedule and you definitely won’t feel so alone when doing it! Plus, if either of you skip a workout, it’s METAL SPATULA (1:09) time! ;)

Unfortunately, that being said, I skipped my scheduled “Strength and Stretch: P90X” workout last night. Eek. But I have two good excuses:

  1. Sisy was hungry and I had to make her and my little bro supper
  2. Sisy wanted to go swim at 6:30AM on Friday (today)

So what does a good li’l sis do? Comply. Resistance was futile. ;) Checkout the delicious (yet easy) meal I made for them last night:

I was literally about to begin the P90X workout when my sis came home and forget to grab some take out. >_< Thank goodness that I had just gone to the market to buy food; otherwise, we would’ve been eating my “nuked salmon” dish.

In any case, since I was able to go swim with her at six-friggin-thirty this morning, I guess missing my workout last night wasn’t so bad. It turned out great that we were there when the pool just opened as there were only a handful of (senior citizen) swimmers and I got my *own* lane! At the same time, I hadn’t swam that early in the morning (and was still too sleepy!) and the fact that I have my long run training tomorroz (17 miles!), I ended up doing some sort of mini-workout with 100m drill and some paddle-board exercises (450m total for nearly 25 minutes).

Overall, a great workout week. Two and a half stars on my calendar and one big star will be slapped (for sure) after my long run tomorrow.

TGIF!

Weekend (food) recap.

Tuesday, 13 April 2010 | 04:04 pm

I haven’t done this in a while and I think I really need to post these weekly food updates to keep track of my nutrition. I’m gonna cheat a bit, too cos I’m including what I ate today (Tuesday) as part of the weekend. >_<

Friday
After my 10-miler, I had some of the pasta I made the night before as a recovery meal. Unfortunately, a few hours later, I was soooo hungry that I gave in to a Pizza Hut advert on telly: $10 for any large pizza — any toppings! Ahhh. Doesn’t it look scrumptious?!

Saturday
Brekkers was a breakfast sausage patty with scrambled eggs and half a toasted (plain) bagel. Lunch was a different beast on its own. I went overboard (as I tend to do with ordering food) and got the Chili Cheese Fries with everything on it. I also ordered a regular hotdog but ended up trashing that the next day… Untouched, even :(

For supper, I went conservative (sort of!) and just had a carne asada taco with a BIG serving of Pomegranate margarita >_< Yeah, that’s conservative for you. LOL.

Sunday
The usual brekkers (cos it was free!) of scrambled eggs, toasted bagel and sausage patty. Lunch was actually a “healthy” roast beef sammich from Erick Schat’s Bakkery in Bishop, CA. Yesh, it had veggies, and alfalfa, lol and other good stuff. Did I mention it was on wheat bread, too?

Supper was, well, I don’t have any photos from Sunday’s supper, but it was a mixture of spicy meatballs, fries and two glasses of Pinot Noir from The Side Door bar in Manhattan Beach. Ahhh.

Monday
Breh. If Friday was bad, Monday was equally as bad since I had 3 slices of the same pizza from Friday. LOL. This is why I shouldn’t order a large pizza if there are only two people eating it during the week! >_<

Today
Brekkers was the usual oatmeal with dehydrated strawberries and lunch was supposed to be my fav Big Mista’s BBQ brisket sarnie buuuuut, I was unable to go out for a lunchtime run so I totally didn’t deserve it ;) Instead, I had to look at what we have in the fridge and pantry (I really need to go grocery shopping!) and made this tasty impromptu, er, meal

What issit? Well, I had some canned salmon left, canned corn and some baby carrots. I nuked the lot, sprinkled a bit of mum’s truffle oil and then dug in. LOL. It was actually satisfying… Not a brisket sarnie but it filled me up and the truffle oil really made a big difference. :)

So there you have it. My “weekend” food recap. As posted before, I’ve already resolved to eating what I want but in moderation. Still, I’d like to incorporate more whole grains and veggies into my daily meals. After all, I want to keep running until I’m like, 80! Hehehe.

I was pleasantly surprised to find out this morning (upon checking the Tweets on my feed [or issit feeds on my tweets?]) that my fav geeky store, ThinkGeek received my submission for the “Wall of Awesome Happiness.” Yesh, I am a geek and not only did I enter that “contest” (btw, dunno if I get the schwag yet), but I also handmade my entry:

It took me about 3 hours to complete (using Sharpie pens and pencils) and then mail off the pieces above, each card with its own stamp! :) I actually won’t be bothered if I don’t win — just knowing that something I created made it through the Post (and that they “got” what the pieces are for) was reward enough.. But really, I wanna win the goodies!

In other news, it’s not the weekend yet and I’ve fallen off my healthy eating bandwagon again. >_< See the deliciousness of my Big Mista Brisket sandwich below.

Had it for lunch after my blotched 3 mile run at the park. :) Ahhhh.
