Gold stah!

Thursday, 25 February 2010 | 08:05 pm

I gave myself a gold star today.

WTH am I talking about? Well, remember in kindergarten when you’d be good, you’d get a gold star sticker from your teacher? LOL. Yesh, times haven’t changed and I give myself a gold star sticker to slap on my calendar whenever I complete a scheduled workout.

Lately, I’ve only been doing like, half of my scheduled workouts so I cut the sticker in half before slapping it on. However, today, I gave myself a whole gold star (wheeee!) for doing three (3) cardio midweek workouts in a row.

Check out my Daily Mile reports for additional details.

Supreme wOOtage.

p.s.,
The day’s not over. I’m going to do 30 minutes of resistance training (arms) and which will render me exhausted and will most likely pass-out around 8:30PM. lolz.

Progress

Wednesday, 24 February 2010 | 09:42 am

I did about 10 minutes of core workout last night — 10 out of 17 minutes! LOL. I couldn’t hang on and finish the entire workout! Ahhh. Obviously, I’m regretting it this morning since now that I think about it, I gave up way too quickly for relief. Later tonight, my sis and I are going lap swimming. I’ll be repeating that the next day and that will be it for my Mammoth preparation! :)

Anyway, back to the “progress” (obviously, not my abs!); I think my knee is feeling considerably better. The glucosamine supplement and quadriceps workout are definitely working! YAY! Not to mention staying off the impact exercises for nearly 2 weeks now. Now I just have to gradually ease back into running next week. I’m half-afraid to jump right back into my 20-miler next Saturday and will probably just do 17 or 18, then my tper it off to 12 the week before the LA Marathon, but I’m glad I’ve stuck to my alternate training despite wanting to just go out there and run.

The quote below sums up why I’m taking my time (and yet being mindful of the time… ahhh the marathon is but 24 days away!) with alternate training:

Running should be a lifelong activity. Approach it patiently and intelligently, and it will reward you for a long, long time.

– Michael Sargent

Running is a lifelong activity and as I hear some “horror” stories of why some people don’t run any more (whether through injury or lifestyle change), I try to remind myself of a number of the active older adults (i.e., senior citizens) who have easily passed by me in one or two marathons I’ve ran in the past! :)

Anyway, I know the sensible thing to do is not to run LA and just continue this therapy training. Unfortunately, I can’t and don’t wanna have my first “No-Show” or worse — “Did Not Finish” with this race. There’ll be other LA Marathons, yeah, but this one’s special cos it’s my inaugural LA run. ^_^ But don’t worry, I’ll be mindful of my effort and exertion, that is, I’ll listen to my body more during the race!

Race Report: Las Vegas Half Marathon

Wednesday, 24 February 2010 | 12:31 am

Wow. Talk about a super delayed reaction! The 2009 Rock ‘n’ Roll Las Vegas event seems like a distant memory but I really need to write about it because I got my second (half-marathon) Personal Record in the same year! YESH. I totally did not expect to PR, either — which makes it even sweeter.

Ok, let me try to recall the event (seeing as it is nearly March and the event took place last December)…
