Four down, two to go!

Friday, 12 August 2011 | 11:26 pm

I’m four weeks into the Presidential Active Lifestyle Award challenge and am two weeks away from fulfilling the 6-week requirement. Just look at the pretty yellow stars below… :D

PALA-radragon

Of course, the challenge is 8 weeks long and I plan to complete all eight, but it’s rather nice to know that I’m so close to the milestone! And to think, four weeks ago, I hardly worked out! :) Then again, I have not really been doing well with my run and triathlon training! LOL I’ve mostly been doing some indoor cardio such as P90x and my new favourite, bouldering (rock climbing) at Hangar 18 (got a Groupon a while back for a discounted 1-month membership!)

Tomorroz (or perhaps on Sunday!) I really do plan to run my, er, long run training for Nike Women’s (half) Marathon. Scheduled is about 7 miles (I think!) Then next week, I’m going to start cramming my swim and bike training! LOL

I leave you now with what I had for dessert the other night… Warm Coconut Doughnut from this Asian fusion restaurant called Rock Sugar. It was sooooo good. It even had a passion fruit syrup dip! Mmmm…

Have a wonderful weekend!

OCB, PALA, & NWM

Monday, 01 August 2011 | 11:53 am

OCB. Don’t really have it; but I do have some obsessive compulsive tendencies;  or I may be in denial and I’m truly OCD :-P . Still, I think all athletes should have a bit of OCB in them. Yes, I called myself an athlete. It’s probably what drives us to do the things we do over and over again, and like it. :) Or it could just be called insanity. Hmmm… I do have a different mindset, when it comes to my “regular” run training, though…  Anyway, onto the PALA (Presidential Active Lifestyle Award)  update first!

Two weeks of the challenge have come and gone and I have to say, it’s nice to have that arbitrary dare to hold you accountable with being physically active every day. Not to say that I do an intense workout everyday, nor do I go above and beyond the requirements (challenge minimum: 30-minutes of physical activity a day or 8,500 steps on your pedometer, daily) but not wanting to break the chain of activity means sometimes I end up working out late at night– 9-, 10-, even as late as 11 PM! So I have to be a bit smarter when I workout, which means I have to tear myself away from the computer and clock-out for at least 30 minutes in the early evening to do my workout! Speaking of tearing myself away from the computer; I need to set a timer or summat so I can occasionally get up to stretch/walk around. Check this infographic out for the need to interrupt your marathon-sitting (i.e., work) day. But I digress…

So my NWM Training update for week 1:

15 mi total scheduled.

Actual miles ran: 3mi. O_O  Ohboy.

I’ve already messed up week 1 of training; mostly because I can’t get my arse on the road to run when it’s safe/light to do so (I blame that on my deadlines last week, but only partly really). Today I only have S/S (Strength and Stretching) scheduled, so I should be ok with that. However, I need to do my 3mi tomorroz and then 30 min tempo on Wednesday. I have a 6miler this weekend, but will be out-of-town so I’ll probably end up doing the 6 on Friday. This is just me typing out loud or rather, psyching myself to do it! AHHHHH.

Happy Monday! :)

3 days until LA Marathon 2011

Wednesday, 16 March 2011 | 08:22 pm

I’m officially freaking out.

There’s only 3 days left and I’ve done all the training I can do before the LA Marathon. The good news is, I’m in much better shape (weight-wise) than last year; the bad news is, I haven’t really kept up the mileage so I’m not sure how (bad) I’ll fare for 26.2 miles. ACK. Basically, my fitness level is still up in the air.

I took a look at my training for the past 4 months and it DOES NOT bode well for this Sunday:

40 miles in December (really curious how this happened!)
12 miles in January (12! Ack! I blame it on the rain [yeah yeah...] and my snowboard trips :) )
44 miles in February (not too shabby, but I remember missing a LOT of training runs)
43 miles in March

Compare that to my training for last year’s October marathon:
77 miles in April, 63 miles in May, 43 miles in June, 19 miles in July, 73 miles in August, 77 miles in September… and these also entailed a couple of skipped runs!

My initial goal of finishing at 5 hours and 30 minutes is but a memory. Now I just want to finish; preferably under 7 hours — under 6 hours if at all possible, even! Oh, and survive. +_+

So here’s the new plan: I’m just going to pray (did I mention I was going to try to do all 20 decades of the Rosary?!), eat my Clif Shot gels (1 entire gel every 30 minutes), enjoy the race course, and not think of the miles.

Here’s hoping there will be to beautiful (i.e., COLD!) weather  on Sunday!
