Long Run Training: 20 miles

Saturday, 08 May 2010 | 07:25 pm

What can I say? This run sucked. LOL.

I was actually having a great run until about 11 miles into it, when I began feeling pain under my right arch. This went on for a while and by the 17th mile, I just did more walking. I would later find out that it wasn’t plantar fasciitis, but a friggin’ blister that bothered me! UGH.

Oh, one scary thing — during the 2nd half of my run, towards the end, my sis and I had a perturbing experience: a young man (well probably under 30′s) on a bicycle was riding up and down the Redondo Beach boardwalk verbally taunting the people walking/running! At one point, he passed me and my sis as he said “You’re lucky I’m not going to kill you today.”  WTH?! He said that to at least a few more people down the boardwalk as my sis and I continued our run. Before that, he passed us (and others) as he was gesturing with his hand and said “How would you like this up your ass?” In hindsight, we should’ve reported his ass to the lifeguard, but I didn’t know how to describe him other than say — man on a bike wearing a black cap, black shirt and jeans?

Anyway, I’ll definitely not run on my own around that part anymore! ZOMG.

Imperfect Heroes

Thursday, 06 May 2010 | 12:19 pm

The very word, hero exudes strength, notable achievements, and other noble qualities that one aspires to. Whether a person should be defined as a hero in the first place could be debated for weeks (or years) on end. In fact, there’s no automatic way of defining or labelling a person as a hero, as far as I know.

Your hero or heroes from when you were younger might not have the same impression on you as the years progress. So, depending on the hero you admired, you may look back and think that most of your admiration was superficial. There are exceptions to that, of course, but I think they’re rather rare.

Do we even have heroes that we look up to when we get to a certain age? When our so-called heroes fail us, despite knowing in the back of our minds that they weren’t saints to begin with, do we seek out new heroes to admire or simply stop believing that true heroes exist?

Can you tell that I’ve recently been disappointed by my so-called hero? *sigh* I guess I just have to grow up. Anyway, back to the real world…

Barefoot Training: 4 miles

Tuesday, 04 May 2010 | 10:40 pm

What a (negative) difference no running during the weekend makes. :(

I didn’t do my 18-mile run on Saturday because of the self-defence class that was practically the entire day. And I didn’t know what I was thinking when I thought I could run on Sunday (was too sore!) and then was still feeling the after-effects of the class on Monday (hey, so I got in three [controlled] fights on Saturday! It really took a toll on my body!)

Anyway, after all that, I guess my body was reverting back to its lazy self, especially when it has not run in three days! Eek.

I already felt sluggish the entire day and nearly didn’t feel like going out for my run but my virtual training bestie, Sheryl, did her “work” with motivating me to just get going. When I finally got to the park, it didn’t help that my Garmin wouldn’t find any satellites and only did, nearly a mile into running. UGH.

I’m glad I kept going, though, and completed my run because I feel better now. In fact, I’m kinda wired that I don’t think I’ll be able to sleep in a while. ROFL. You win some, you lose some (sleep!)
