Training Run: 3 miles

Notes:
This is actually my first time running since the San Diego marathon and boy do I feel out of shape! The first mile was rather labourious and the rest were just bad — lol now I’m not so sure if I can maintain the 11 minute pace my sis asked me to do for the duathlon… EEK!

As posted yesterday, I was considering cycling instead of running but I realised that I hadn’t broken in my insoles! I bought them at the SD Marathon expo and haven’t broken them in yet… I think I need another run (or two) to fully break them in and I shouldn’t really run the race on Sunday with them but I’m “only” going to do less than 4 miles running in them so I should be ok… I think!

Cross-Training (40 minutes)

I was supposed to do a bike ride today but didn’t have time to set up the bike rack for the truck! Ahhh. So I decided to go lap swimming. It went amazingly well! I did these drills (see below) and I thought they’d be tough but it was definitely manageable. I guess when you have a “goal”, even in the water, it makes for a better workout. I deffo have to go bike riding tomorrow, though.

Here’re the drills I found online:

5 x 50 (15 sec rest in between) Freestyle - “Thumb to Thigh”
5 x 50 (15 sec rest in between) Freestyle - “Touch and Go”
5 x 50 (15 sec rest in between) Freestyle - “Closed Fist”

The “Touch and Go” was rather tough; you’re supposed to touch your outstretched hand with the hand that just did the stroke before that outstretched hand can proceed with the stroke! It deffo messed with my breathing and rhythm and I still have to work on it. The “Closed Fist” was not too bad — I thought this would be the drill that would really test me but I was gliding through (sort of).

Again, it was a good workout and I will deffo do these drills when I go swim again.

Cross-Training (45 minutes)

Notes:
After a week layoff, I’m back to training. Last night, I went for a 45-minute lap swim. Well, as usual, 5 minutes into the workout, I got tired! LOL. Also as usual, I think my breathing is off again. Going to try to do a bike ride today to figure out how to switch gears and such — the race is this Sunday at Disneyland and although the total miles run will only be 3 miles, the bike ride will be 10 miles and apparently there’s one small hill. Here’s to my workout later today!
