Cross-Training (30 minutes)

Thursday, 28 May 2009 | 05:09 pm

Notes:
Swimming last night was a bit better than my 2-mile run. It was busy at the pool again but at least the lane I joined was manageable. I think I’m improving, as far as my freestyle stroke goes (i.e., breathing has gotten better) so if I really want to do a triathlon, I’m sort of on schedule. :) This is my last “real” training before the SD marathon. On Saturday, I need a 2-mile run but I doubt I’d be able to run that… Well, I’ll do my best to do it. ^_^

Training Run: 2 miles

Tuesday, 26 May 2009 | 08:10 pm

Notes:
ZOMG. I just had a rather indulgent weekend: a chili dog with fries and orange soda on Saturday for lunch then Buffalo wings and fries with 2 pints of Stella for supper. A Jeff’s Burger and rootbeer for lunch on Sunday then Udon soup combo for supper. Filet mignon (teppanyaki-style), chicken fried rice, and a glass of Kirin for lunch yesterday then more Buffalo wings, fried potato skins with sour cream, bacon bits and green onions, and 4 pints of Stella for supper… Then this afternoon, I had a chicken nacho plate. AHHHHH. That’s literally everything I ate this past holiday weekend and er, I totally felt it during my labourious 2-mile! run this afternoon. >_< I feel so out-of-shape, and that’s a few days after my 15-miler.

Now I’m scurrred. Scurrred that I can’t run with Sheryl at her pace at her first evar marathon! EEEK. LOL. It also didn’t help that tonight I had two carne asada tacos — they’re not as good as the OLG Carne Asada Fiesta tacos, but they were still, well, rather indulgent!

Anyway, here are the Garmin Connect stats and Nike+ report:

Memorial Day

Poppy Field

We cherish too, the Poppy red
That grows on fields where valor led,
It seems to signal to the skies
That blood of heroes never dies.

Long Run Training: 15 miles

Saturday, 23 May 2009 | 03:09 pm

Notes:
A week hiatus from running was not good! I felt it after about mile 9 through 11, and walking soon after that. I know I should be tapering but my training log prescribed 2-3 hours worth of running so 15-miles it was. Unfortunately, my electronics refused to cooperate with me! LOL. Well, towards the end of the run anyway. Garmin got the dreaded “Mem Lo” message and then my Nike+ crashed/froze at the END of my run; i.e., was unable to save the entire workout. PAH!

Once Garmin connect resolves itself, I’ll post that data. No data for Nike+ though :(

*update*
Garmin Connect is back online. See my run stats here.

California Island!

Friday, 22 May 2009 | 10:43 pm

AHHHHH! Okie, I don’t know how I came upon this map but I thought it was kinda creepy… At that time, at least according to the Wikipedia article, the European conception (or misconception) was that California as an island and not part of the US mainland… Whoa. Maybe they saw something à la Nostradamus? LMFAO.

Or maybe I’m not really posting this cos I’m rather tired but haven’t gone to bed cos I’m dreading the 15-mile run tomorroz… Ack. Click on image above for larger version and even more info on peninsula of California.

Sweet dreams! ^_^

Volunteering and Raffles

Thursday, 21 May 2009 | 10:58 pm

So it’s been a while since I’ve posted about my Church’s website. Looking back through the years, or at least the days that I do post about my church’s website, you’ll find around 2002, I’ve been procrastinating about completing the redesign. Anyway, fast forward to 2009, OLG Website, version 4.

Last April (or I should really just say, “last month”), I created a Paypal shopping cart for the church, mainly to sell Pre-Sale Fiesta Food/Games and Rides tickets. It’s not even that sophisticated, they’re Paypal generated buttons so it’s cut-and-paste. I thought that people mightn’t use the shopping cart but I was wrong! Okie, so only 66 people used it but you should see the numbers (about 5.4k in ticket and “700 club raffle” purchases – wOOt). Looks like we’re going to have this option again next year. ^_^

Oh, the people who planned the Fiesta had an appreciation dinner tonight (lol reason for my post!).  I was invited cos of  my participation with the shopping cart… Of course, they didn’t have to twist my arm to attend, either! The email invite advertised free food AND open bar! Hahahha. I was good though, as I only had two margaritas (Churches have the best parties, btw) ^_^ The funny thing is, we had a raffle at the end of the evening (again, one of those appreciation raffles) and I won… 1 month of Tae Kwon Do lessons! LMFAO. Don’t worry, I won’t embarrass myself. >_<

I thought this was cool. I mean helping out and reaping the benefits later (in Heaven) is what you’re really after but having the margaritas along the way isn’t too shabby!

Cross-Training (40 minutes)

Thursday, 21 May 2009 | 03:25 pm

Notes:
Went lap swimming. Here’s the workout breakdown: 100m freestyle; 100m kickboard; 100m breaststroke; 100m freestyle; 100m kickboard; 50m freestyle; 50m breaststroke… At least, I think that’s what I did! LOL. I really should just bring a sheet of paper with me and post it by the pool so that for each lap, I can check off that column! Hahaha. I do have a waterproof pen… Hmmmm. Idea. ;)

Oh, I missed my 6-miler yesterday. Too much stuff going on and didn’t have a chance to go out for a run. Ugh. I’ll probably suffer this weekend (I’m doing 14 miles) but whateves, it’s my last long run before the marathon! AHHHH. At least Sheryl is doing better than me! YOU GO GIRL! See ya at SD. ^_^

Midweek Food-for-Thought

Wednesday, 20 May 2009 | 09:47 am

Got this off of those Runner’s World Quote of the Day email:

“Running gives me a sense of controlling my life. I like the finiteness of runs, the fact that I have a clear beginning and end. I set a goal and I achieve it. A good run makes you feel sort of holy.”

- Nancy Gerstein, runner

I think I’ll keep in mind the middle-portion of that quote: I like the finiteness of runs, the fact that I have a clear beginning and end. I set a goal and I achieve it. It’s deffo summat to keep in mind when one’s running a marathon! The holy bit can use some updating — like, when I run, sometimes I’m in awe of nature’s majesty (or the ignorance of humans, especially when they block the effing path I’m running on by walking three or four abreast. Keep to the right, people!!) but back to nature’s majesty…

I have some inspirational/upbeat Christian music on my iPod. For my Hard Corps marathon, I purposely included all the Christian-themed songs about 4 hours into my run; I thought that whilst hearing these songs that I’d sing along to on the radio (yes, there’s a nice station playing Christian pop music, based in Orange County called “The Fish” 95.9 KFSH) that I’ll be inclined to continue running. It actually works but since I have a limited playlist (I’ve only about 5 to 9 songs), they don’t really last me until the end of the marathon and I end up listening to whatever I have and that’s when I’m normally tired/pooped/bored/dejected. LOL.

In other news, because of the quakes/aftershocks (which now some seismologists are saying that it’ll only get stronger), I’m going to check the house for anything that might topple over and break when something stronger than a 4.7 occurs… Ahhh. California! We’ve fires, earth shakes and a governator! wOOt. >_<
